Welcome to the beer page of weloveourlife.com.

Lori and Keith have tried a variety of beers from around the world. Probably our favorite beers come from Belgium. Both of us have been to Germany (Keith many times) and like the locally brewed beer in the Beer Gardens there as well.

We have started to experiment with brewing our own beer at home. Lori gave Keith a kit from Mr. Beer and we have made a few of the recipes. So far, our favorites are the Czech Pilsner and the Pale Ale.

Here is a list of beer that we enjoy very much. Usually you can find at least three of the following beers in our "beer fridge" at any given time.

Chimay

Chimay

Chimay is produced at the Abbaye de Notre-Dame de Scourmont near the city of Chimay in Belgium and was founded in 1850. Chimay is an authentic Trappist beer which means that it is brewed within a Trappist monastery, under the control and responsibility of the monastic community. Only 6 beers in Belgium can carry the appellation "Trappist": Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Westvleteren and Achel.

Chimay brews three different beers. They are Premiere (aka: red), Cinq Cents (aka: triple), and Grande Reserve (aka: blue). Keith's favorite is the Cinq Cents. The others are also very good and should be tried. Chimay is best when served in a Trappist chalice. The Abbey also produces four types of cheese. While we have not tried any of these cheeses so far, we are sure that they are excellent.

Duvel

Duvel

Duvel is made at the Moortgat brewery in Breendonk, Belgium. This is a Belgian Golden Ale. Duvel is best when served in a tulip shaped glass to catch the aroma. The word Duvel is flemish for devil.

Hoegaarden White
Hoegarrden's Home Page
hoegaarden

Hoegaarden White is an authentic Belgian wheat beer. It is top fermented and then refermented in the bottle. Hoegaarden White has a distinctive hazy yellow color. This beer is slightly spicy, with a strong touch of coriander and a hint of orange. It is very refreshing, especially in the springtime. We enjoy putting a slice of an orange in our Hoegaardens for that little extra flavor.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Sierra Nevada is a micro-brewery in Chico, California. This brewery makes eight types of beers: Pale Ale, Stoudt, Porter, Wheat, Summerfest, Celebration Ale, Bigfoot, and Pale Bock. Keith's favorite is the Pale Ale.

Victory Brewing Co. Golden Monkey

Golden Monkey

Victory is a small micro-brewery in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. It is located about one hour west of Philadelphia. Victory brews a variety of beers. The beers that are made all year are: Hop Devil, Prima Pils, Brandywine Valley Lager, and Festbier. In addition, seasonal and specialty beers are made. Our favorite is a specialty beer called Golden Monkey.

Golden Monkey is brewed in the traditional triple style. Authentic Belgian yeast is used to give this beer it's distinctive flavor. Be careful, though, this beer is 9.5% alcohol. This is Lori's favorite beer.

Blue Moon

Blue Moon

Blue Moon is a Belgian-style wheat ale. It is brewed at the Blue Moon Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado. The Blue Moon Brewing Company is actually owned by Coors. The Confederation des Brasseries de Belgique sued Coors over the use of the term "Belgian White" since Coors does not follow the strict Belgian guidelines. (That is the only way Coors will ever be mentioned on this page, I promise)

Blue Moon has a lot of coriander and orange in its taste. It is a very refreshing beer in warm weather. This is another of Lori's favorites.

Yuengling Lager

Yuengling Lager

Yuengling is a small brewery located in Pottsville, PA and it was established in 1829. The brewery makes a variety of beers including: Lager, Black and Tan, Porter, and Chesterfield Ale. The lager is one of Keith's favorites. Yuengling Lager is a traditional lager that is mildly hoppy.
